The Galaxy Cup National Super League Volleyball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) will begin today at the Volleyball House Sports Complex in Dadella, Galle. Organised for the first time, this Under-25 tournament is for both men and women.
Champions of both men and women categories will be awarded Rs. 1 million as prize money.
This is the first time winners of a national volleyball tournament are getting Rs. 1 million as prize money.
The principal sponsor of this tournament is a Chinese company Baosbeng Lanka Investment Holding Pvt. Ltd. SLVB and the sponsors hope to make this an annual event in the volleyball calendar.
This tournament is expected to create a pathway for national and international tournaments for school volleyball players and those who have just left school, SLVB Secretary A.S. Nalaka said. The preliminary round of this competition will be held from March 16 to 22 in Galle. The semi-finals on March 27 and the finals on April 10 will be worked at the NYSC Indoor Stadium in Maharagama. The SLVB hopes to pick a national pool after this tournament.
