Fondre backing S. Thomas’ rugby

The leading rugby playing schools competing in the Dialog Inter-School rugby league tournament are leaving no stone unturned in their preparation for the forthcoming schools rugby season which will usher with the President’s Trophy knockout tournament scheduled to start this weekend.

S. Thomas’ will be getting the support of Fondre who are coming forward as the main sponsor of the team for the second successive year along with ten other sponsors.

The Thomains are celebrating 70 years of school rugby since 1955 and since then they have succeeded to bag nine championship titles comprising five league and four knockout titles. The Thomians bagged the first league title in the year 1984 and followed it up with league title wins in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 2000 while the knockout title success was in the year 1984, 1991 and 1994.

Prima Group of Prima Koththu Methe fame along with Marina Square (Access Group), George Steuarts Health, Ceylinco Insurance, Softlogic Life, HT Ceylon, Celeste, ASL Logistics, Unitrail Global (Pvt) Ltd and Aarous are the other ten sponsors of the Thomian rugby team.

The Thomians are coached by Anuranga Walpola and the side will be led by scrum half Venuka Wickramasuriya with Seneshka Liyanagunawardena as his deputy.
