Reshan Algama finishes fourth out of 60 golfers

Sri Lanka’s Reshan Algama delivered a landmark performance at the 11th Nepal Amateur Open, finishing in fourth place with a remarkable three-day total of 209 (−7) yesterday in Kathmandu.

This achievement marks one of the best international finishes by a Sri Lankan male amateur golfer in recent memory and certainly one of the most significant performances by a junior on foreign soil.

Reshan showed his composure, consistency, and world-class skill throughout the championship, carding three consecutive under-par rounds of 72, 68, and 69 just at the age of 17 years. His ability to stay below par each day on a demanding layout and against a strong regional field reflects the immense potential and maturity of this rising star.

The championship was won in dominant fashion by Nepal’s Sadbhav Acharya, who shot an extraordinary total of 196, including a record-setting 60 in round two. Fellow Nepali B.K. Rahul and India’s Sumit Kotwal tied for second and third, both posting scores of 206, just three strokes ahead of Algama.

Among the other Sri Lankan competitors, Sachin de Silva surged to a 20th place finish with a solid even-par final round, bringing his total to 232, while Chanaka Perera finished 21st with a cumulative score of 233. Both were private entries. Chalitha Pushpika pulled out after day one due to an injury.
