The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has decided to temporarily suspend the administration of six major football leagues in Sri Lanka with immediate effect.
The decision has been taken due to various activities carried out contrary to the FFSL Constitution and several Court decisions.
After investigating the matter, FFSL President Jaswar Umar said that a decision will be taken in the future whether to continue the ban.
Accordingly, the FFSL has banned six football leagues, namely Embilipitiya, Hambantota, Jaffna, Kalkuda, Madumanthai West and Point Pedro.
The decision on the ban was approved by a unanimous vote of the other football league representatives at the FFSL Annual Congress held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel Colombo last Saturday.
67 football leagues previously operated under the FFSL.
The following Member Leagues shall be suspended, and a normalisation committee shall be established by the FFSL to restore the shortcomings of these Member Leagues and elect a new set of office-bearers:
EMBILIPITIYA FL – No annual reports, no annual accounts, no football activities for more than three years.
HAMBANTOTA FL – No annual reports, no annual accounts, and no football activities for more than three years.
JAFFNA FL: A party had filed a case in an ordinary Court and obtained an interim order preventing its office-bearers from holding positions. This league has not functioned for two years.
KALKUDA FL – No annual reports, no annual accounts, no football activities for more than three years.
MADU MANTHAI WEST FL – A dispute between parties and a case was filed at the ordinary Court.
POINT PEDRO FL – No annual reports, no annual accounts, no football activities for more than three years.
