Cinnamon Grand Monthly Medal Attracts over 260 golfers

The prestigious Cinnamon Grand Monthly Medal tournament at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) once again delivered an exhilarating show of amateur golf at its finest, as players across a wide spectrum of handicaps battled it out for top honors in their respective divisions. The May 2025 edition saw more than 260 golfers teeing off at the prestigious RCGC.

In the highly competitive Division A for players with handicaps from 0 to 9, Darshan Veeraraghavan emerged as the nett winner with an impressive score of 71, securing the top spot on a better back nine count against Chandana Gunasekara, who also carded a 71 nett. 

On the gross leaderboard, Kumar Danushan  claimed victory with a solid 72, showcasing precision and consistency on a course that tested every aspect of a golfer’s game.

Division B (handicaps 10 to 18) belonged to Mihindu Chandrasoma, who turned in a remarkable performance. His nett score of 68 earned him the top podium finish, while he also clinched the gross title with a score of 81— an impressive feat that highlighted both his form and fitness. Navin De Silva followed closely in the nett category, finishing runner-up with a respectable 

In Division C (handicaps 19 to 28), W. K. H. Wegapitiya produced a stunning round, winning the nett title with a superb 58. Shanik De Silva had an excellent tournament as well, finishing second in the nett with 60 and going on to win the gross title with a score of 82, marking a breakthrough performance in this 

The Seniors Division witnessed Sriantha Rajapakse win the nett title with a 61, followed by Udaya Nawimana with 67. The gross crown went to the seasoned Kumar Boralessa with a tidy 85.  In the Masters category, Rohitha Mendis captured the nett title with a 70, narrowly edging out Michael Beamish, who scored 74 on countback. Amal Cabraal emerged victorious in the gross category with a 91, demonstrating enduring skill and determination.

The Juniors brought their A-game to the course. Nidushka Bandaranaike triumphed in the nett division with a 71 on countback, edging past Revaan Amarasinghe, while Thejas Kanth took the gross honours with a strong 74.

In the Ladies’ Silver Division, Dhinuka Boralessa impressed with victories in both nett (70) and gross (86) categories while Dr Praveena Dunuwille was the runner up. 

In the Bronze Division, Mavali Weerasinghe claimed the nett title on a countback over Kaya Abhayaratne, both scoring 70. Kaya redeemed herself with a gross win, shooting 96.

The Ladies’ Seniors division was topped by Neelani Hettiarachchi, who showcased her consistency with a 73 nett and a 105 gross (on countback), while Mrs. N. Amarasuriya took the nett runner-up spot.

The May 2025 Cinnamon Grand Monthly Medal reaffirmed the RCGC with a gala dinner and prize event at in their Club House at RCGC.
