Sri Lanka’s junior golfing stars Reshan Algama and Adhithya Weerasinghe have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the prestigious Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament, scheduled to be held on May 27-29 at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Fanling, Old Course.
Weerasinghe, a promising golfer from Anuradhapura and a student of Ananda College, is a product of the Sri Lanka Golf (SLG) junior development programme, which continues to identify and nurture talent nationwide.
This is also a great opportunity for Algama to improve his world rankings, where he is placed at 722, whilst Weerasinghe is still to open his world ranking account. Algama, a seasoned campaigner on the international circuit, has previously represented Sri Lanka in junior tournaments held in the Philippines (twice), Thailand, India, the UAE, the USA, Japan and most recently in Vietnam. Weerasinghe has also competed internationally, gaining valuable experience in India and Thailand. Kaya Daluwatte too was selected for this event, but unfortunately she had to pull out due to an injury.
The Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament is a flagship event in the junior golf calendar, bringing together elite youth talent from across the region. Golfers from 18 countries provide a critical platform for young golfers to compete at a high level, gain international exposure, and accumulate valuable world ranking points, shaping their future in the sport. This event will be played for three days with 54 holes and no cut-off involved.
The continued efforts of Sri Lanka Golf and the support of sponsors-Prima, Perera & Sons, HSBC Future Lions, and most recently DFCC Bank-play a vital role in the growth of junior golf in the country.
