19th Battle of the Golds Thaviru, Gimantha rescue Mahanama

Thaviru Perera and Dimantha Dissanayake cracked half tons to rescue Mahanama College on day one against traditional rivals DS Senanayake in their 19th Battle of the Golds big match played at the SSC ground.

Thaviru made 77 inclusive of six boundaries and two sixes while Gimantha hit 56 with four boundaries and a six and they shared a valuable 137 runs for the ninth wicket when Mahanama was struggling on 98 for eight to help them end on a respectable 235.

Left arm spinner Shanal Binusha did the early damage and DSS in their turn facing six overs ended the day on 13 for no loss. The match will be continued today.
