Charity for Humanity - when hearts unite

The Sacred Heart Church Choir organises a musical evening to help the needy

What is humanity if we do not care for each other and learn the art of giving and sharing? One should be able to understand another person’s feelings, his wants and needs, and especially those of the less privileged and not so lucky enough to have a good life. They do not have high aspirations. Apart from food and shelter, all that they need is a kind word, a word of encouragement and a ray of hope to move on with their lives with confidence.

Charity means unity, and it is depicted by the 7a.m. choir of the Sacred Heart Church, Rajagiriya , uniting together with all the benevolent parishioners and with the help of everyone are gearing up to hold an evening of musical entertainment as a fund raiser to raise sufficient funds to undertake two main charity projects –they are, to upgrade the sound system at Sacred Heart Church Rajagiriya , and also to support the higher education of 30 children from underprivileged families belonging to the parish and to fund the renovations to a cottage at St. Euphrasia’s home in Nayakakanda for single mothers , abused women and children.

It will be a charity with a cause indeed, to show these poor souls that there are people who still care, all is not lost and that hope still prevails.

This musical extravaganza will be held at the Defense Services College Auditorium Col-2, at 7. 30 p.m. on 17th of October(today), which means today ! Guest performances will be performed by Sinhala and Tamil choirs as well. It was interesting to spend an evening with the choristers at rehearsals, and we had quite an enjoyable time with this amiable bunch of people consisting of all age groups, from seven to sixty. That itself shows the harmony among these people, and their dedication to make this effort a success.

And of course, they do love to have a bit of fun too, while practicing! We spoke to a few of the enthusiastic participants of the choir, and this is what they had to say.

So the 7a.m. choir of the Sacred Heart Church have certainly got together for a worthy cause indeed , by getting together with all the parishioners and well wishers for this act of pure humanity- and you can also join in by lending a helping hand to add a ray of sunshine make another persons life change forever. Tickets will be priced at Rs. 500, Rs. 750 , Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1500.
