The storm that swept through our nation has left behind a landscape of broken homes, twisted roads, and shattered infrastructure. Engineers and economists are already adding up the billions needed to rebuild what was lost. Bridges can be restored, electricity can be reconnected, and houses will one day rise again where rubble now lies.
But there is another kind of damage—quieter, deeper, and far less measurable.
Across the country, families struggle to steady themselves after a blow that has shaken the very core of their lives. Toddlers who once clung to their parents’ hands now face a world suddenly emptied of familiar warmth. Young people, once carefree, now speak in whispers about the night everything changed. As for the adults who survived, many carry an exhaustion that no amount of rest can erase.
Experts can estimate the cost of rebuilding a highway. No Doctor can estimate the cost of rebuilding a bleeding heart.
Entire communities are wrestling with grief that cannot be quantified in reconstruction plans. The trauma of those who survived is not confined to the moment of the disaster; it lingers in quiet mornings, restless nights, and every reminder of what used to be. Society itself seems to walk with lowered shoulders, united in sorrow for neighbours, friends, and strangers alike.
The nation will rebuild its physical structures—this we know. But the emotional reconstruction will require something far more complex: time, compassion, and a collective willingness to acknowledge the invisible wounds that disasters leave behind.
The memories will remain. They will shape a generation, perhaps two, before fading into history. Until then, it is our duty to offer comfort, patience, and solidarity to those who carry the burden of survival.
In a tragedy of this scale, it is clear: money can restore buildings, but only humanity can restore hope. Let us stand united and face it.
