Woman nabbed at Airport with Rs. 4.1Mn worth smuggled cigarettes

An air passenger who attempted to smuggle into the country a consignment of 27,400 foreign cigarettes was arrested last morning by the Airport Customs. The 55-year-old woman was a resident of Andiambalama who arrived from Dubai in the early hours of last morning. When she attempted to leave through the Green Channel the Customs officers checked her on suspicion to find the stock of contraband cigarettes in her baggage.  

Investigations revealed that the trade value of the stock of Manchester brand cigarettes was more than Rs. 4.1 million. She was detained for further questioning.
