Woman hacked to death in Kosgama

A woman had been hacked to death near Pussellawa Rubber factory in Kosgama yesterday.   

The body was recovered by Kosgama Police who visited the  scene on information from the public. Police said they noticed an  incised wound in her neck.   

The victim, Sepalage Mallika Samanmali (49) of Nugaghawatta  in Puwakpitiya in Avissawella, was a rubber tapper in an estate and  mother of two children. A senior police official said that she had  attempted to escape, but the killer had given chase and assaulted her  with a sharp weapon.   

He said the circumstances that led to the killing were yet  to be established. Kosgama Police are conducting further investigations  to identify the suspect and to arrest him.
