We will form administrations of local bodies where opposition has a majority: Sajith

We will do this despite threatening statements by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake that the government will not allow opposition to form administrations of local bodies for long

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will somehow form administrations of local bodies where opposition has a majority, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.  

“We will do this despite threatening statements by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake that the government will not allow opposition to form administrations of local bodies for long,” Mr. Premadasa said during a public meeting in Maligawatte.  

“We will work towards resolving issues faced by the people in the country through local bodies,” he added.  

This statement by Mr. Premadasa comes despite the remarks made by some newly appointed opposition members that it is too late for the opposition parties to get together. Manoharan a newly elected member to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said that both the UNP and SJB could have secured the CMC if both parties contested the local government poll together.
