Vedda chief cuts birthday cake with axe

Vedda Chief Uruvarige Wannila Eththo celebrated his 78th birthday yesterday. A large gathering including those of his clan were present at the ceremony in Dambana. The Vedda Chief upholding the traditions of his clan cut the birthday cake with his axe.  
Donation of dry ration among 78 families and school requisites among 221 children took place during the ceremony.   
Head of Adivasi Jana Uruma Buddhist Centre Ven. Galporuyaye Pradeepawansa Thera administered religious activities.   
The ceremony had been sponsored by the Indian Asst. High Commissioner’s office in Kandy and several Sri Lankan expatriates in Dubai.   DIG Badulla Division Sujith Wedamulla , DIG Colombo Division Ujith Liyanage, Mahiyangana Divisional Secretary Nuwan Disanayake and representatives of the Kandy Indian Asst. High Commissioner’s office were present at the occasion.
