Two A/L students killed in accident; Kandy big match called off

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two Advanced Level students of St. Sylvester’s College last morning after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a bus near the Pallekele Army Camp.
The deceased were identified as Nethula Nimdinu and Sachith Karunarathne, two students in the Advanced Level Mathematics stream. Sachith Karunarathne who was riding the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries upon admission to the Kandy National Hospital while Nethula Nimdinu died on the spot.
In the wake of the incident, authorities decided to immediately suspend the 66th “Big Match” cricket encounter between St. Sylvester’s College and Vidyartha College, which was being played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The decision to call off the match was made following a proposal by Central Province Governor Professor S.B.S. Abayakoon, which was accepted by the principals of both schools.
