Tragic fall claims life of young buddhist monk at university

Fellow students had transported him to Homagama Hospital by a three-wheeler summoned from outside the campus. He was later transferred in the same vehicle to the Colombo National Hospital for advanced care, where he tragically died from his injuries

A 24-year-old Buddhist monk succumbed to injuries sustained after a falling from the second floor of the university hostel, police confirmed.  

The victim, identified as Ven. Dehiattakandiya Sumangala, a third-year student at the Sri Lanka Buddhist and Pali University, passed away while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital.  

According to the Homagama Headquarters Police, the incident occurred in the early hours of the 26th, around 2:30 AM, when the monk fell from the second floor of a university residential hall, sustaining severe injuries.  

Following the fall, fellow students initially transported him to Homagama Hospital using a three-wheeler summoned from outside the campus. He was later transferred in the same vehicle to the Colombo National Hospital for advanced care, where he tragically died from his injuries.
