Three officials arrested in vehicle registration scam

All three suspects were to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court

Bribery Commission is currently investigating the unauthorized registration

Three officials, including a former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Motor Traffic, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with the illegal registration of a vehicle.

The Bribery Commission said that it is currently investigating the unauthorized registration of a vehicle bearing the number GS-9164 with the Department of Motor Traffic, which was carried out without clearance from Sri Lanka Customs.

Accordingly, the former Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic -currently who is serving as a Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Lands Suriya Priyangani Sirimanne, was arrested on charges of approving the unlawful transfer of the vehicle.

Sanjeewa Kumara, a Development Assistant at the Department of Motor Traffic in Narahenpita was arrested over the Illegal transfer of ownership of the vehicle while ndika Lakshman Herath, a Supervisory Officer at the Investigation Division of the Narahenpita Motor Traffic Department, was arrested for allegedly providing recommendations that facilitated the illegal transfer.

All three suspects were to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
