The Police Unit for the Prevention of Sports-Related Corruption yesterday informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that the Attorney General has decided to file indictments in the High Court against Tamim Rahman, the owner of the Dambulla Thunders team, in connection with an alleged match fixing incident during last year’s Lanka Premier League (LPL) cricket tournament.
Officials of the Sports Corruption Prevention Unit informed Court that the Attorney General had decided to proceed with indictments against the suspect under the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act.
Accordingly, they requested that a short date be fixed for the matter to be taken up. The Magistrate ordered that the case be called again on December 5.
At the hearing, the suspect, a British national of Bangladeshi origin who is currently out on bail, appeared before Court.
