Suspect arrested with Rs. 4Mn in stolen property

An individual wanted in connection with the theft of  property from several houses and business establishments in Avissawella,  Puwakpitiya, Madola, Dehiovita and Kosgama, areas was arrested, and a  part of the stolen property was recovered by Avissawella Police.   

Police had arrested him for having in his possession a  stock of drugs and, under interrogation, revealed his involvement in  burglaries.   

A senior police official said the stolen property recovered  during investigations included laptop computers, TV sets, mobile  phones, electrical appliances, wristwatches and cameras valued at more  than Rs.04 million.   

Investigations revealed that the 29-year-old suspect was a  resident of Kiriwandala in Avissawella, living at present in Kelaniya  area.   

The suspect was to be produced before Avissawella magistrate yesterday.   

A police team under HQI Avissawella Police Prasanna Jayalath had carried out the raid and arrested the suspect.
