State Vesak Festival commences today in Nuwara Eliya

The inaugural ceremony of the State Vesak Festival will be  held today at 1.30 pm in Nuwara Eliya Town Hall, with President Anura  Kumara Dissanayake as the Chief Guest.   

Media Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and  Cultural Affairs Ruwan Liyanarachchi said the festival commencing today is  scheduled to last till May 16.   

The festival includes the Clean Sri Lanka Environmental  programme on May 11, Vesak Full Moon Day programme on May 12, the moral  upbringing programme, on May 13, Bhikkhu and Bhikkhuni training  programme on May 14, spiritual exaltation programme on May 15, and the  health promotion programme on May 16.   

Media Secretary said steps had been taken to hold  archaeological and curios exhibitions, pandols, display of Vesak  lanterns, Bhakthi Gee recitals during the festival.
