In a historic move to accelerate Sri Lanka’s transition to a cleaner and smarter energy system, the government has approved a Time-Based  Battery Energy system (BESS) integrated with rooftop solar photovoltaic  (RTSPV) installations.

“This is to encourage solar producers to install battery  energy storage systems, allowing them to store surplus electricity  generated during the day and release it to the national grid during the  peak hours from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm. This approach will not only improve  grid stability but also reduce the country’s dependence on costly  fossil fuel-based power,” a statement from Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)  said.
