Several houses in Malay Colony under water

Several houses in Malay Colony on the banks of Walawe river had gone under water on Sunday night (05) after the opening of five spill gates in the Udawalawa reservoir when the reservoir reached spill level due to the heavy rain experienced in the area.  

The water was being released to the Walawe river at a speed of 11,700 cu,ft, per second. Residents of the area pointed out that the concrete erection reinforcing the river bank parallel to the Ambalantota – Ridiyagama road had been damaged by floods.
