Seven students released on bail

The suspect students had been arrested by Homagama police during investigations of a complaint of an alleged assault

A group of seven students from the Sri Jayawardenepura University who were arrested in connection with the alleged criminal assault on a fellow student were produced before the Homagama Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriiya last morning and released on personal bail of Rs.300,000 each.   

The suspect students had been arrested by Homagama police during investigations of a complaint of an alleged assault.   

Police told court that the suspects had assaulted the complainant, a third year student of the university from Weligama who was against ragging in universities, frequenting the campus after 6.00pm and not using a nick name.   

The injured student had initially obtained treatment from the Homagama base hospital and subsequently from the Matara general hospital.   

Attorney at Law Nuwan Jayawardena appeared for the suspect students.
