Serpents released to Kalawewa national park

Venomous snakes of several species including cobras saved by environmentalists and animal lovers of KAYA King organisation and Snake guardian organisation to  were released to the Kalawewa National Park yesterday to mark International Environment Day .

Snakes injured in accidents and those facing threat of being destroyed by human activity in home gardens and public places had been saved by the Snake guardian Organisation.   

A Representative of the Snake Guardian Organisation Deshabandu Sampath Thushara held a public awareness programme on safely capturing snakes and releasing them to the jungle unhurt. Environmentalist also launched a tree planting campaign in the Kalawewa National Park.   

The programme was launched under the guidance of Director General of Wildlife, and North Western Range Asst. Director of Wildlife.   

The Mahasangha of the area, Director of KAYA King Organisation P.M.C.Weerakoon, Galkiriyagama Range Wildlife Oficer Prashantha Wijekoon , Volunteer Wildlife Tour guide, Ananda Bandara, Director, Ceylon Extreme Adventure Organisation Sanjeewa Ariyaratne, and President of Pavura Organisation Saliya Disanayake were present at the occasion.
