Safety of tourists who visit islands in Jaffna will be assured: Minister

In the aftermath of a boat tragedy in Neduntheevu where a group of tourists had been rescued, Minister of Fisheries Ramalingam Chandrasekar yesterday assured that maximum steps would be taken to ensure the safety of tourists who visit islands in the North.   
The Minister said he has requested the police and Navy to monitor the conditions of boats which are used for transportation.   
He said some 12 tourists who were traveling in a boat on the Northern Sea were rescued after it was sunk. In addition, two crew members were also rescued. The Minister said the poor condition of the boat had led to the tragedy.   
He thanked the Navy and private parties for having rescued the tourists.
