The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday assured that disciplinary action would be taken against its Horana Organizer, Charith Abeysinghe, if he is found guilty of any offence, while also urging the government to pursue investigations into several unresolved cases, including the killings of former ITN Chairman Thevis Guruge and journalist Premakeerthi de Alwis, as well as allegations linked to Ibrahim over the Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking in Parliament, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the party would not protect anyone found to have committed wrongdoing. His remarks came after Abeysinghe was arrested along with Rakitha Rajapaksa, the son of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
“We will not defend wrongdoers,” Madduma Bandara said, adding that the law should take its course if any individual is found culpable.
He also called on the authorities to carry out proper investigations into the killings of former ITN Chief Thevis Guruge and veteran journalist Premakeerthi de Alwis.
Joining the debate, SJB MP Amila Prasad responded to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s query regarding the action the party intended to take against its Horana Organizer. Prasad said the National People’s Power (NPP)-led government should also explain to the public what action would be taken regarding those who had included Ibrahim on its National List.
He further recalled that allegations have been made linking Ibrahim to the Easter Sunday terror attacks and said those claims should also be thoroughly investigated.
