Management committee to meet on Wednesday, regarding organisers

There is a possibility of reforms in the Samagi Jana  Balawegaya (SJB) in the near future, the party’s National Organiser Tissa  Attanayake said yesterday.

“There is a view among many that the party should undergo changes, but no concrete decisions have been made yet regarding changes to office bearers,” Mr. Attanayake told the Daily Mirror.

He said focus has also been made on entrusting specific  tasks to some office bearers, including Deputy Chairpersons and the  Deputy National Organiser.

Attanayake said the management committee of the party  will meet on Wednesday, where a decision will be made with regard to  organisers. “We will be discussing on reshuffling of organisers and  appointing new ones to areas where there are no organisers,” he added.

“We will discuss a course of action under which the  party could work with other opposition parties. Such a joint effort is  needed, given the political situation,” he also said.

However, he ruled out a change in party leadership and rejected reports that a new opposition leader would be appointed soon.

Meanwhile, MP Chaminda Wijesiri said major reforms in the  party are necessary. “There should be changes of office bearers in SJB,”   he told Daily Mirror. MP Wijesiri called for a leadership change in SJB  just after the local government election where the party suffered yet  another defeat.

In another development, it was reported that Leader of Tamil  Progressive Alliance (TPA) MP Mano Ganesan has urged for a  re-launch of Samagi Jana Sandanaya. The MP made this call in his recent X  message.
