Programme launched to empower university students on climate resilience

A climate change ambassador programme amongst the university students in Sri Lanka, under the theme, ‘Fostering Climate Change Action Ambassadors: Empowering Youth for Climate Resilience (CCAA)’, was launched by Janathakshan GTE Ltd Sri Lanka in partnership with the HSBC recently.
The aim of the programme, which is scheduled to conclude in September 2025, is to create a generation of empowered youth advocating climate resilience, mitigation and adaptation strategies.   
The initiative brings together five leading universities namely Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, University of Jaffna, University of Ruhuna, University of Peradeniya and University of Kelaniya ensuring a broad geographical reach and a diverse student body.   
With climate change posing an ever-growing threat to Sri Lanka, university students are in a unique position to become powerful advocates for environmental change. The CCAA project aims to harness the energy, creativity, and determination of these young people, fostering them into become Climate Change Action Ambassadors.
