Pregnant she elephant electrocuted

A pregnant she elephant had been electrocuted when it came in contact with a live wire laid around a coconut estate at Mediyawa in Nikawalayaya off Maho.   

Wildlife officers said the she elephant was about 20 years old and that she was about 15 months pregnant. They said that the embryo would have been destroyed due to the electric shock.   

Maho Range Wildlife Asst. J.M.A.S.Jayasundara said Nikeweratiya Wildlife Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Isuru Hewa Kottage performed the postmortem examination on court order issued by from Maho magistrate.   

Wildlife Guards K.N.Somatilaka, and M.A.D.Prasad Ratnayaka are conducting further investigations on the instructions of the Range Wildlife Asst. J.M.A.S.Jayasundara.
