Government MP Gevindu Cumaratunga said the introduction of organic farming was a challenge Sri Lanka should overcome with the same spirit it displayed in defeating the scourge of LTTE terrorism .

MP Cumaratunga who spearheads the Yuthukama organisation said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had taken an absolutely essential decision to introduce organic agriculture at a time when health hazards such as cancer and renal failure occurred due to the use of agro-chemicals.

“The President said the successful introduction of organic farming is not a difficult task for a country which defeated the scourge of terrorism. It is an appropriate example,” he said.    Mr. Cumaratunga said, “In the fight against terrorism, the background was planned meticulously and methodically .Military recruitments were carried out, arms procurements done and relevant officers positioned in different ranks. Military operations were launched according to a well- planned criterion,” he said

He said organic farming could also be made a success story if the president’s decision were implemented according to a well-laid down plan.
