For the first time in the history of Mahinda Rajapaksa College, Homagama—and indeed for the first time in a school—an obstacle course and shooting range for cadets were completed and ceremonially declared open on 10th September 2025 by Colonel (Training) H.D.L. Ravindra of the National Cadet Corps.
This year, the qualification of five cadet platoons of the college to participate in national competitions can also be considered a significant achievement.
Arrangements have been made to extend this opportunity to students from other schools where such facilities are not available. Accordingly, students may attend training at the college on designated dates by paying a fee to the school’s Development Society. We also extend an open invitation to cadets from the Western Province as well as other provinces.
This initiative was carried out under the guidance of the Principal of the College, Mr. G.D. Sarath Bandu Gunasekara, with the leadership of Major Daminda Prasad, Officer-in-Charge of Cadeting at the College, and Captain K.A.N. Shantha Kumbalathara, Assistant Principal and Prefect of Games, who initiated this programme. The project was successfully completed through the financial contributions and commitment of parents from the Senior Defence Cadet Platoon and other platoons.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the officials and coaches of the guest schools—Ananda College (Colombo), Bandaranayake College (Gampaha), S. Thomas’ College (Mount Lavinia), and Rajasinghe College (Bope)—for accepting our invitation and supporting us in making this event a success.
The primary objective of this initiative is to conduct continuous training activities at the college, enhance the skills of cadets, build their self-confidence, and nurture a generation of strong and capable leaders.
