Night classes in NCP

North Central Province Department of Education has launched a programme to hold evening and night classes for students preparing for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year.   
 The programme covering 55 schools is implemented by the Governor’s office, Anuradhapura Zonal Education Office and Ceylon Teachers’ Union. according to a concept of Governor Wasantha Jinadasa.   

 The classes are held in three sessions after 2.30pm. The first session from 2.30pm is for the students from areas facing danger of wild elephants and the second session from 6pm to 10.00pm for the students from other areas. The third session from 6.00 pm to 6.00am the following day once a week in batches.   

 The teachers and parents have welcomed this programme and agreed to provide protection to the students Facilities have been provided for practicals in Music, Dancing and Information Technology from 8.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays at two centres in each education division.   

 A senior official of the Governor’s office said several schools are facing a shortage of teachers for main subjects and that the services of teachers from other areas would be mustered for the programme. It is of significance that the teachers have volunteered to provide their service.   

|Governor Wasantha Jinadasa on Wednesday night (12) carried out an inspection of the night classes at Anuradhapura Bulankulama Maha Vidyalaya.   

Several senior officials including Zonal Director Mahesi Manjarika had joined the inspection.
