Waging a war with the rising Dengue and Chikungunya cases in Colombo alone, a dozen of areas are to be fumigated under the Mosquito Eradication Programme, while the exact date is yet to be decided, a high-ranking Public Health Inspector (PHI), told the Daily Mirror.

He explained, 45 teams are to be deployed, with 15 each for the following areas.

Accordingly, D3 Ministry of Health (MoH), Kurunduwatte, Borella North, Borella South, Wanathamulla would be covered.

Under Narahenpita, falling under the D4 MoH, Thimbirigasaya, Kirula Road, and Narahenpita itself and under D5, Bambalapitiya, Havelock town, Milagiriya, and Wellawatte South would be attended, the PHI revealed.

“We were on the ground and on the ball. Above are some areas we could not touch. Those areas will get fumigated in due course. With these showers also helping mosquito breeding spots, these mosquitoes are only on the rise”, he said.

As Daily Mirror reported last week, officials have resorted to drones to identify lands, buildings, high-risk and infected areas.

Responding as to how that progressed, he said complaints have now reduced.
