“Manige Theeruwa, not out 36” launched on Monday

“Manige Theeruwa, not out 36,” a collection of weekly popular Sinhala language newspaper columns, will be launched at the International Book Fair, at BMICH, on September 29 at 3.30 pm.

Former Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya and Professor Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri will be the main speakers of the event.

This is the fourth collection (volume) of Manige Theeruwa (Mani’s column), the longest-running newspaper column in Sri Lanka.

The popular column written in a satirical language by Sundara Nihathamani de Mel first appeared in Sunday Divaina in 1989 and has been continually appearing for the past 36 years, shifting to Sunday Lakbima and Sunday Aruna in later years.

Manige Theeruwa, which features in various journalism courses, including in several universities, always touches on the hottest political topic of the week, thus, each collection of it being a book on widely talked about political issues in the country within a particular period, portraying the political trends within that period.
