Man arrested after beheading pregnant wife

• Victim is a 32-year-old primary school teacher

A man was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly beheaded  his pregnant wife and surrendered to police while carrying her severed  head.  

According to police, the incident took place in Puliyankulam, Vavuniya.   The suspect arrived at the Puliyankulam Police Station on a  scooter early in the morning, carrying the head of his 32-year-old  wife, Sugirdaran Rajun Swarnalatha, a government school teacher at a  primary school in Nainamadu.  Preliminary investigations suggest the crime may have been  linked to allegations of an extramarital affair involving the victim and  a student. Police believe that the suspect may have acted after  receiving several anonymous phone calls accusing his wife of the affair.
