Claiming that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has not made any objections to the proposed public sector salary increment, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe said yesterday the government will go ahead with the proposal and provide a significant salary increment in the upcoming budget.

The Deputy Minister told Parliament that a significant salary increment will be provided to the public sector employees in line with the cost of living.

While responding to a question by MP Ravi Karunanayake, he said the government is not ready to accept the Rs. 25,000 increment proposed by the Ranil Wickremesinghe government as it was done targeting the Presidential election.
