The report on the probe that has been carried out on the clearing of 323 containers without subjecting them to checks is expected in a week, Treasury Secretary A. K. Seneviratne told the meeting of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) yesterday.
Mr. Seneviratne has come out with this information in response to a query made by COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva during the COPF meeting.
Dr. de Silva has made the query referring to a report carried by Daily Mirror on Tuesday June 2, 2025. Dr. de Silva was referring to a Daily Mirror story which reported that a complaint has been made with the Bribery Commission with regard to the matter. The MP had read out the headlines of the story.
The MP had asked about action which the Ministry of Finance has taken in this regard.
A Daily Mirror story titled ‘Red-flagged containers release: controversy spirals further’ reported that a complaint has been made with the Bribery Commission while the opposition has threatened to file legal action on it.
