The Health Minister and the government remain inactive  despite diseases such as Chikungunya and Dengue spreading in the city  of Colombo and the rest of the country, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan  Wijewardene said yesterday.  “Diseases such Chikungunya and Dengue are spreading, and  neither the Minister of Health nor the government is doing anything  about it. They are silent about it despite hundreds are seeking hospital  treatment, Mr. Wijewardene told a press conference.    “I would request all UNP candidates at the local government  elections to focus on this matter, especially once they are elected,”  he said.     He also said, “The government should have taken timely  action and should have sent its delegates to the USA to engage the  representatives of President Donald Trump. Sri Lanka would have secured a better position with regard to reciprocal tariffs if such a dialogue had taken place. However, the government did not focus on it initially.    This government can only talk, but it does not walk the  talk. They talked of the Batalanda Commission report for a few days. They  have now forgotten it. They arrest people, and then they are bailed out  within days. Nothing is happening about eradication of corruption,” he  said.
