The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has informed all heads of government institutions that fines will be imposed on government officials who fail to submit their assets and liabilities declarations, effective from today (14th), official sources said.
Accordingly, starting today, a deduction will be made from the salaries of officials who have not submitted their declarations.
Government officials who are required to submit ‘assets and liabilities declarations’ must provide details of all their assets as of March 31 each year, and submit this information to their institution head by June 30, the official said.
However, the heads of institutions have reportedly failed to forward these declarations to the Bribery Commission , they said.
Accordingly officials who had not submitted their declarations by June 30 were granted a two-week grace period. Those who submit within this extended period will only receive a warning letter from the Commission.
With the grace period ending today, the list of officials who have still not submitted their declarations will be forwarded by the institution heads to the Commission in the coming days. The fines will be imposed on those officials, sources added.
This enforcement is in line with the new Anti-Corruption Act, implemented to prevent corruption, fraud and irregularities.
