Practical issues had arisen to convene even Parliament due to the fuel crisis, where MPs find it difficult to travel from long distances, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhane said yesterday.

He told a workshop held in Colombo that an MP travelling from Jaffna has had to spend nearly Rs. 62,000 for fuel for one journey up and down.

He said a MP travelling from Ampara and Matara has had to spend Rs. 44,000 and Rs.42,000 respectively for fuel up and down.

“Some MPs have faced financial difficulties to travel to attend Parliament sessions,” he said.
