Environmental groups, including the Association for the Protection of Elephants and Tuskers, which intervened in the proceedings as aggrieved parties, have consistently urged authorities to prosecute those responsible under the Public Property Act, arguing that the killing of a nationally significant tusker warranted stronger legal action.
Attorney-at-Law Savana Ranatunga appeared on behalf of K. Priyadarshani, President of the Association for the Protection of Elephants and Tuskers, one of the intervening aggrieved parties.
The case was postponed for August 6 for further proceedings pending the submission of the valuation report and related evidence.
