The diabetic eradication programme implemented at the Colombo East Base Hospital (CEBH) Mulleriyawa for the first time in parallel with Kidney Saving Day has become a success, says the director of the hospital.
Director Dr. Priyantha Karunaratne told Daily Mirror that the concept was a brainchild of Dr.Shamali Kirihetti Liyanage which was introduced by her with the motive to educate the diabetics on correct procedure of using insulin and other related drugs and to make aware the diabetics about their eating habits the diabetics should follow.
Dr. Karunaratne said for the first workshop held there was a good response from diabetic patients with an unexpected number of diabetics and interested parties attending the workshop.
Since there is a good response from patients, the authorities have now decided to continue with this programme.
The workshops will be conducted under the inspection of the Diabetic Education Nursing Officers Guild with the participation of a team of nurses under the guidance of the Nursing officer in charge Ms. Buddhika Senaviratne.
Those who are interested in joining the workshop could contact the Nursing Officer of Medical Clinic Ms. Buddhika Senaviratne, for further information, said the Director of the hospital.
