Divisional Secretaries to boycott Monday meetings from tomorrow

Colombo, June 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Association of Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries said that its members will completely withdraw from participating in any official meetings scheduled on Mondays, effective from tomorrow, June 8. This decision applies to all physical as well as virtual (online) meetings usually conducted on this specific day.

According to the association, this step was taken due to continuous disruptions caused by various ministries, state institutions, and political authorities who frequently schedule meetings on Mondays. The trade union highlighted that these clashing schedules heavily inconvenience the general public and disrupt the day-to-day administrative operations of the Divisional Secretariats.

The association further pointed out that according to Public Administration Circular No. 27/2023, Mondays have been strictly designated as "Public Day." The circular explicitly mandates that all Divisional Secretaries must remain in their offices to listen to and resolve the grievances of citizens visiting them, and clearly instructs that no official meetings should be conducted on this day.

R. Senthil, the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries, said that after carefully reviewing these persistent violations of state guidelines, the union decided to strictly enforce the boycott starting tomorrow to safeguard the time allocated for the public.
