Hit-and-run by drunk driver kills two women

Colombo, June 7 (Daily Mirror) - Two women have tragically lost their lives after being struck by a car on the Embulgama-Panagoda in Hanwella. 

The incident took place when a car traveling towards Embulgama crashed into two female pedestrians who were walking in the same direction. Following the collision, the driver failed to stop and fled the scene without rendering assistance. The two critically injured women were rushed to the Navagamuwa Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as residents of Ranala and Girandurukotte, aged 42 and 44.

Following the investigation launched via CCTV footage and local intelligence, the Hanwella Police managed to arrest the suspect driver. The vehicle involved in the crash has also been taken into police custody. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver was heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The Hanwella Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
