Coroner remanded over accepting bribe

The Anuradhapura Municipal Coroner and his assistant were remanded till April 21 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohamed Rishwan today over allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000 for issuing a postmortem report   
The remanded suspects are Mudiyanselage Jayathilaka, the Municipal Coroner of Anuradhapura and his assistant.  
The incident relates to a complaint made by a resident of Anuradhapura, whose deceased uncle’s postmortem report was allegedly delayed. It is claimed that the suspects had demanded a sum of Rs. 2,000 to issue the report and to complete the required application for the death certificate.   
The suspects were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in the Anuradhapura market area while allegedly accepting the bribe.   
Following their arrest, they were produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court and later produced to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
