The heat felt by the human body is expected to reach the Caution level in 29 districts. This includes areas in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Western, Southern, and Eastern provinces, as well as Ratnapura and Monaragala districts.
According to the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology, only the districts of Matale, Kandy, Kegalle, Badulla, and Nuwara Eliya are expected to experience normal heat levels.
The Heat Index Forecast is based on both humidity and maximum temperature. It reflects how hot it actually feels on your body, not the air temperature itself. This forecast is generated using global weather data for the next day and is issued by the Department of Meteorology with guidance from the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
People working outdoors are adviced to stay hydrated and take regular breaks in the shade and to check on elderly and sick people staying indoors.
Leaving children unattended, especially in vehicles is unadvisable according to health experts.
People are also adviced to limit heavy outdoor work, stay in the shade, drink plenty of water and wear light-coloured and lightweight clothing.
