Baby elephant rescued after falling into well in Thanthirimale

A baby elephant in a herd that roamed into a cultivated land in Thanthirimale in the Anuradhapura District last morning had fallen into an unguarded well.   

A team of wildlife officers from Mahavilachchiya wildlife office rushed to the scene on information from the public and made arrangements to rescue it. They said it was an arduous task to take the calf safely out of the well.   

The calf was to be released to the forest reserve to rejoin with the herd.
