Another ragging incident leads to suicide attempt

• Three male students and one female student arrested

A first-year female student of the Kuliyapitiya Technical College attempted to take her own life on Monday evening by jumping into a nearby lake, reportedly after being subjected to severe ragging.  

Alert residents in the area quickly intervened and rescued the student from drowning. She was subsequently admitted to the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.  

Police said the student, overwhelmed by the emotional trauma caused by the ragging, had attempted suicide. Following initial investigations, police arrested three male students and one female student in connection with the incident on Tuesday.  

A senior police official stated that further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any additional suspects involved in the incident. The four students taken into custody are scheduled to be produced before court today.
