The election of chairman of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha was held yesterday after about six months since the local government election.

However, the CLG decided to go ahead with the election since the required quorum was complete.

NPP Member P, K, Premaratne received 23 votes was declared elected while the Sarwajana Balaya Member refrained from voting.

NPP Member Priyiantha Abeysinghe was appointed unanimously as Vice Chairman.

Meanwhile, the party membership of Sarwa Jana Balaya Member Chandana Premanath Mudunkotuwa has been suspended for violating the party decision at the election of Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha.

General Secretary of the party Ranjan Seneviratne said it was informed to the member by letter yesterday. The letter indicted that it has been revealed that the member concerned had supported the NPP member at the election of chairman.

The General Secretary has informed him that a final decision in this regard would be taken on the findings of a formal disciplinary inquiry.
