A reprint of the Pali grammar work “Balawatharo and Balawatharaya Gadaladeniya Sannaya’’ compiled by Rajaguru Second Dammakitthi and Third Dammakitthi Theras, will be released at the Conference Hall of Dalada Maligawa, Kandy, on Saturday, September 13, at 3.00 pm, with the participation of the Maha Sangha and lay guests.
The first copies of the book will be handed over to the Most Venerable Malawatta and Asgitiya Maha Nayake Theras on the morning of the launch day by Milinda Moragoda, founder of the Pathfinder Foundation, accompanied by a representative of the Indian High Commission.
The book was originally compiled in 1800 AD, and later published in several editions, considering the needs of the student community studying the Pali language. The Pathfinder Foundation decided to republish the two books as a special edition of “Balawatharo and Balawatharaya Gadaladeniya Sannaya’’ in its original format with the consent of the Mahanayake Theras of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters of Siyam Nikaya to provide an opportunity to study Pali as an academic language.
Most Ven. Dr. Niyangoda Vijitasiri, Most Ven. Dimbul Kumbure Saranankara, and Most Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Theras, along with the Malwatta and Asgiri Karaka Sanga Sabawa, are scheduled to attend the book launching event. The High Commissioner of India, Santhosh Jha, and Pathfinder Foundation Founder, Milinda Moragoda, will attend as special guests of the ceremony. The Pathfinder Foundation undertook the reprint of the publication under the sponsorship of the Indian High Commission. The book will be available free of charge to those attending the event and others interested in studying the Pali language, including pirivenas, temples, and universities in Sri Lanka.
