Review of 2026 budget projects held



Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - A review meeting on the implementation of ministry-level projects and key policy initiatives under the 2026 Budget proposals was held yesterday (17) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) said the meeting focused on the progress of ongoing projects and the challenges faced in implementation. Attention was also given to the urgent steps needed to resolve issues and speed up work.

Officials reviewed project progress and existing problems in several ministries, including Defence, Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Digital Economy, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Ports and Civil Aviation, Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Justice and National Integration, Women and Child Affairs, Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports, Environment, and Housing, Construction and Water Supply.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary to the President Dr. Kumanayake highlighted that all relevant institutions must work together to solve existing problems without delay. He also said that speeding up project implementation and ensuring public benefits is a shared responsibility.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the Ministry of Energy Russell Aponsu, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.), Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration Ayesha Jinasena, and several other senior officials attended the meeting.
